The Council of Ministers allocated BGN 1 million to finance the implementation in 2023 of a programme to support the organizations of the Bulgarian communities in Albania, Serbia, Kosovo, Ukraine and Moldova and of citizens of the Republic of North Macedonia with Bulgarian self-awareness, the government information service said.

A court in the UK on September 26 formally charged five Bulgarian citizens with espionage. Orlin Rusev, Biser Dzhambazov, Katrin Ivanova, Vanya Gaberova and Ivan Stoyanov did not appear in court in person.

Bulgaria will include January 1, 2025 in an official document as a target date for its euro zone membership, it transpired from a draft decree of the Council of Ministers amending and supplementing Government Decree No. 168 of July 2015 on the establishment of a Coordination Council for the preparation of the Republic of Bulgaria for euro zone membership.

Former FBI official Charles McGonigal confessed to his guilt on Friday for accepting 225,000 US dollars from Albanian-American Agron Nezaj, who, as per court documents, had become an informant for the FBI’s investigation into McGonigal’s contacts and activities in Albania.

The helicopter, which was reported missing earlier on Friday, was found with the dead pilot's body in a remote ravine a couple of kilometres from the village of Garmen (Southwest Bulgaria), the Interior Ministry said Friday evening. A medical team is headed towards the scene.

A Lebanese school in Sofia started the new school year with nearly 500 pupils. It is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its founding and is now in a new building that will house only students from the school, which is named after Lebanese-American writer and poet Gibran Khalil Gibran, the organizers said.

The Special Appeals Court for Corruption and Organized Crime has ruled to keep Fredi Beleri, the elected mayor of Himara, in prison. Beleri was arrested two days before the May 14 elections on charges of vote-buying.
