Former FBI official Charles McGonigal confessed to his guilt on Friday for
accepting 225,000 US dollars from Albanian-American Agron Nezaj, who, as per
court documents, had become an informant for the FBI’s investigation into
McGonigal’s contacts and activities in Albania.

The Special
Appeals Court for Corruption and Organized Crime has ruled to keep Fredi
Beleri, the elected mayor of Himara, in prison. Beleri was arrested two days
before the May 14 elections on charges of vote-buying.
Bulgaria stands fully behind the European future of Albania, which is an
important factor for the security and stability not only of the region, but of
the whole of Europe, Bulgaria’s Vice President Iliana Iotova said during her
visit to Tirana on September 15.
Vice
President Iliana Iotova discussed with representatives of the local authorities
the opportunities for expanding the study of Bulgarian language and cooperation
between Bulgarian and Albanian universities, the press centre of the head of
State said on Thursday.
The
Political Assembly of the EPP in the European Parliament, which is being held
these days in Brussels, approved a resolution presented by the New Democracy
where it requests from the Albanian authorities the permission for Fredi
Beleri, elected mayor of Himara, to swear in.

reburial of Qazim Mulleti, an official who served the Italian and German
occupation, has angered left-wing activists after Mulleti received praise from
others, who believe his story has another side to it.
The Foreign
Minister of Greece, Giorgos Gerapetritis, has called the extension of detention
for Fredi Beleri a clear violation of the presumption of innocence, which is
preventing him to swear as the mayor of Himarë.
