Biden's exploratory phone call to Egypt's president about the Palestinians

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received, on Sunday evening, a phone call from President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, egyptian media write today.

Spokesman for the Presidency, Counselor Ahmed Fahmy, said the two Presidents discussed the overall security situation in the Middle East, the latest developments in the military escalation in the Gaza Strip and the need to prevent the expansion of the circle of the conflict to the regional milieu.

In this regard, President El-Sisi affirmed Egypt’s position with regard to the necessity to reach an immediate humanitarian truce, so as to enhance Egypt’s intensive efforts in cooperation with the United Nations and all international actors, primarily the United States, to deliver humanitarian, medical and relief aid to the people of the Gaza Strip. 

The two Presidents agreed on the vital importance of exerting intensive efforts to increase aid in a tangible, effective and sustainable manner, and in quantities that meet the humanitarian needs of the people of the Strip, who are subjected to enormous suffering.

President El-Sisi and U.S. President Biden tackled the various dimensions of the current conditions in the Gaza Strip. President El-Sisi underscored Egypt’s firm position of rejecting the policies of collective punishment and displacement. 

The President reiterated that Egypt has not and will never allow the displacement of the Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to Egyptian territories. 

The American President also confirmed that the U.S. rejects the displacement of the Palestinians outside their lands. President Biden expressed profound appreciation for the positive role assumed by Egypt and the Egyptian leadership in this crisis.

The two Presidents reviewed the latest developments in the dossier of the detainees in the Gaza Strip. 

They also touched on prospects for joint cooperation to mobilize international efforts toward advancing the path of reviving the peace process, with the aim of implementing the two-state solution and establishing the Palestinian State in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy.
