Three fighters affiliated with the autonomous Syrian Kurdish administration were killed in a Turkish drone strike near Kobane in northern Syria, a war monitor reported on Wednesday.

The strike targeted a car in the village of Boghaz, south of the Kurdish city of Kobane, and killed “three soldiers operating in the Autonomous Administration areas,” said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), a Britain-based war monitor.

Turkish forces regularly strike targets in the Kurdish administration of northeast Syria (Rojava) on the grounds of having ties with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and posing a threat to its national security.

The PKK is an armed group struggling for the increased rights of Kurds in Turkey and designated a terrorist organization by Ankara, who considers Rojava’s People’s Protection Units (YPG), the backbone of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), as the Syrian front for the PKK.

Since early October, Turkey has carried out frequent assaults on Kurdish-led forces and civilian infrastructure in Rojava in retaliation for an attack on the interior ministry in Ankara, for which the PKK claimed responsibility.

According to SOHR, Turkey has carried out 98 drone strikes on Kurdish-controlled areas in Syria since January, killing 82 people and injuring 88 others.
