Three key US positions in Syria were hit by missile attacks. Among them are the military bases of al-Tanf and al-Shadadi, as well as the large al-Omar oil field, located in the province of Deir ez-Zor.

The attacks on al-Omar and al-Shadadi bases drew particular attention because they were claimed by an Iraqi Shiite militia called the Islamic Resistance in Iraq.

This militia has long expressed its disagreement with the presence of American troops in Syria and Iraq, considering them occupation forces.

So far, the exact number of casualties and destruction as a result of the attack has not been reported.

US authorities and coalition forces are assessing the situation and analyzing possible responses, however, it should be noted that there is a risk of direct military clashes between the US and pro-Iranian groups.

The White House on Monday expressed concern about the actions of Iran, which it believes is actively facilitating Iranian-backed missile and drone attacks on US military bases in Iraq and Syria by local factions. US President Joe Biden has directed the Department of Defense to prepare for further attacks and respond accordingly.

White House Press Secretary John Kirby noted that over the past week, and especially over the past few days, the number of such attacks has increased significantly. He stressed that the United States will not allow threats to its interests in the region to go unanswered.
