On September 8, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reported that the Russian Federation announced the so-called elections to the local occupation administrations in the temporarily occupied parts of the territories of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions of Ukraine, as well as the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, to be held on September 8-10.

On September 9, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry reported that Azerbaijan and Ukraine recognize and support each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity. "Based on this, Azerbaijan declares that any election held on the territory of Ukraine in accordance with the Constitution and legislation of this state can be legitimate, but the recent 'elections' held in a part of the internationally recognized territories of Ukraine generally have no legal force," the information added.

On September 13, in connection with Baku's statement regarding the non-recognition of the elections held in the occupied territories of Ukraine, Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that Russia sent a demarche to Azerbaijan through diplomatic channels.

According to Zakharova, such assessments do not correspond to the level of allied relations between the countries. "Baku should approach the issue of the territorial integrity of our country as our partner expects us to respect its territorial integrity. We are talking about the territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan here," she added.
