A protest is being held in Athens in memory of the 50th anniversary of the
student uprising of the Greek capital's polytechnic, as those present have
burned the NATO and US flags.
It is reported by foreign media that thousands of Greeks are marching outside the American embassy against American policies in Greece during the years of the colonels' dictatorship. They oppose the American role even during the ongoing war in Gaza.
On the other hand, it is also reported that the protesters have warned of a
rally outside the Israeli embassy in Athens, but the police say they will not
allow it. There are thousands of police forces in the area supported by
drones and helicopters.
5,500 policemen, helicopters and dozens of fire engines have been put on
red alert today in Athens to maintain order during the protests that started in
memory of the 50th anniversary of the student uprising of the Athens
Polytechnic.
According to the police, the center of Athens has been closed to vehicles
since 13:00 and until the end of the protests, while the Panepistimio,
Sindagma, Evangelizmos and Megaro Muzikis metro stations are also closed.
