Eighteen migrants from Austria and 14 detained in other EU countries were returned to Bulgaria today, February 13, under the Dublin Regulation. Some of the migrants arrived by charter flight.

Cyprus said on Tuesday it was in discussions with Lebanon over the return of 116 Syrian migrants rescued off its coast after Beirut refused to accept them back.

The death of 61 people, who drowned in a shipwreck off the coast of Libyan shores during the night between 14 and 15 December, is “the direct result of Europe’s migration policies”, said Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF).

Cyprus experienced a surge in arrivals of migrants via sea, as 40 individuals arrived on Saturday, followed by an additional 224 on Sunday, who arrived in two boats carrying 142 and 82 passengers, respectively.
